The Snoopy characters or just Snoopy was created by Charles M. Schulz for a comic strip that was named Peanuts and that was firstly published in 1950. The comic strip was based on Snoopy’s owner, named Charlie Brown, and his gang of innocent yet lively friends. However, with time Snoopy the dog won more and more popularity and even got close to become the protagonist of the story. Nowadays, the name Snoopy is quite famous, even more than Charlie Brown.
The comic strip lasted for fifty years, and the last episode was published in the year of 2000, after Schulz’s death. It has become one of the most amazing and adorable comic strips of all time, and the characters that take place in the story are one of a kind, with unique trademarks and ways of understanding the world. Peanuts is believed to be the first comic strip that had more than two or three characters and another distinctive feature is that since its early times it dealt with the fact that society is ethnically varied and therefore children from different ethnics are portrayed together as good friends.
The comic strip tells the audience the story and adventures of a bunch of children friends that are quite naïve, innocent and well intentioned, although sometimes impulsive or impetuous. They spend most of their days enjoying baseball championships and outdoors. Snoopy fulfills the role of the intelligent character in the comic strip, because he is a great thinker and spends a vast majority of the day’s hours lying down on the rooftop of his dog house wondering about any given situation. He is always accompanied by a little yellow bird named Woodstock that follows him wherever he goes and that is enormously loyal to him.
Peanuts, and with it Snoopy as well, has become one of the most important hits of comic strips history in America and the characters, plots and stories have expanded to other media such as animated cartoons for TV, games, merchandising and many other things. Snoopy will always have a reserved place in children’s heart and this is simply due to his tenderness and innocence, two features that make him the most adorable dog around.
