A beautiful looking dog, Cardigan Welsh Corgi Coats can be any shade of sable, red or brindle. Furthermore, black and blue merle coloured Coats - with or without tan brindle patches - are two Coat colours that are also officially recognised.
If looking to take a Cardigan Welsh Corgi into a home for show purposes, it has to be noted that there are a variety of unofficial Coat colours that aren't recognised as true Cardigan Welsh Corgi colours. The most common unofficial colour is red merle and whilst looking particularly striking, a Cardigan Welsh Corgi with this Coat colour will not be allowed to compete in a show.
There are many features that are favoured on a Cardigan Welsh Corgi's Coat, including white patches on the dog's neck, chest and muzzle areas.
As the Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a small and long dog, their Coat can grow long and become matted if not groomed regularly. It is advised to groom the Cardigan Welsh Corgi on bi-weekly basis at least and ensure that any loose or dead hair is brought away from the Coat with the brush.
