Cane Corso Information

Have you ever heard about the Cane Corso breed? It is probable that this name doesn’t ring a bell to you but perhaps if you see a picture of these dogs you will recognize them. This unusual but highly respectable breed is absolutely interesting to know since it has many virtues and few cons. Since it is not very popular among regular pet owners, we think it would be sensible if we give you some information on this breed’s physical characteristics, temperament and behavior.

First of all, the history that lies behind the Cane Corso is located in Italy. These dogs have been traditionally breed in that country and it is believed that they are descendant of the roman “Canis Pugnax” dog, which was historically used for many activities such as hunting or herding. You can find two types of this breed: the Italian one (called Caned Corso Italiano) and the American one. They are pretty similar in general but have particular differences easily identifiable.

They are dogs show a well built squared shaped body and strong muscles. They are located among large breeds, but they can also be medium sized dogs. They are robust and agile. This is the reason why they are great for many active tasks and works.

The eyes are always black and should be oval shaped. The nose should be black as well and the nostrils must be visible since they are quite big. The jaws are truly strong and defined. The coat is short and smooth and can be of colors such as black, grey, fawn or different tones of each of these colors.

They can have some white markings in the chest but they are not usual. There is no excessive grooming needed since they don’t shed regularly. The height of these dogs must be between 23 to 27 inches and the weight, between 88 to 110 pounds. This breed’s health conditions are not too relevant and the most important problem they may present is related to bones and articulations. In this sense, these dogs are really healthy and active.

They can also be around family and children since they are truly lovable, affectionate and patient. They have a stable personality and this will guarantee you no sudden mood changes when being around children. Nevertheless, you should be careful when it comes to strangers or other animals because they can get potentially aggressive and territorial. However, this is a feature that can be easily controlled if the dog is trained and socialized from his youth and since they are puppies.
