The Bullmastiff dog breed is one of those breeds that require no introduction. This impressive and sturdy dog only requires admiration for its beauty, its outstanding bearing and its amazing temperament. Once and again, England comes in the picture when we have to talk about the country of origin of a breed and the Bullmastiff is a good example of that. Experts believe that this breed was the result of a cross between regular Mastiffs and Bulldogs. They were bred to create stronger dogs that could fulfill other activities. This breed is obviously recognized by the AKC, the CKC, the FCI and many other important associations.
The Bullmastiff dog is certainly one of the most fabulous dogs ever. It is a large creature that usually measures between 25 and 27 inches tall and between 110 and 130 pounds of weight, becoming therefore one of the largest breeds of all. The body of this dog is muscular and sturdy with a strong neck, strong and firm legs and a broad head that ends in a square shaped muzzle. The ears are V shaped and are usually gently pendant while the nose is black and large. The eyes are extremely expressive and of an important size. As for the coat, it is short and soft to the touch. It is quite clean and needs almost no grooming. Regular colors for this coat are in fawn, brindle, red and may also feature white markings.
Although this dog may seem a dangerous and extremely brave animal the truth is that it is a corageous dog but at the same time it builds a deep bond of love and devotion to its family. They are well natured animals that stay alert in order to protect their masters. They need and love having a human leader to follow and will respond really good to your orders. This proves their undivided loyalty. Of course, due to their size, they are not dogs anyone can handle, but firm training can have the best results. They need to be socialized since puppies with children and other animals.
