Briard Grooming

Regular Briard Grooming is a key factor to consider when owning a dog of this type. The Briard tend to have somewhat of a wavy double coat, with the undercoat quite thin and the over coat being long and made of hair similar to that of a goat. Due to this, the Briard's coat requires 2 to 3 hours a week of Grooming.

When the Briard is a puppy, their coat should be brushed daily until their adult coat beings to grow. This ensures that the coat grows properly and no loose hair rests under the top coat, becoming dirty and matted.

When brushing the Briard, it is paramount that the coat is brushed the way that it grows naturally. Working from top to bottom, this will ensure the undercoat is well brushed and any loose hair is worked out. Furthermore, using the correct brush or comb is necessary when Grooming a Briard, as there are three different brushes available depending on the Briard's coat - a pin brush, a slicker and a regular comb.

When Grooming a Briard, special attention should be devoted to the ears, ensuring that they are clean and no hair is resting in them. Similarly, their eyes should be especially cared for, with the use of a damp cloth to lightly rub over the eye, making sure that no hair is in or near eye which could irritate the Briard.
