The Boxer

The Boxer is very famous, funny and cute, the color goes from brown to fawn, with white marks that should be distributed in the chest but not in the tail or the ending back.

if you are already decided to go for a Boxer and want to learn everything about this breed, you surely will find this information interesting. This breed was originated in Germany, and the main reason why it was bred was for hunting reasons among aristocratic people.

This took place in the nineteenth century and it is important to mark that the features that made Boxers needed at that time are still present in this breed.

The Boxer body is a very particular one. With a square built body, strong legs and tight muscles, Boxers demonstrate a very distinctive presence in any room or place they are because they are majestic. The length should be around 23 or 25 inches and the weight between 66 to 70 lbs. if the dog is a male and 55 to 60 lbs. if it is a female (males tend to have larger bones than females). (see boxer dog pictures)

Sometimes the Boxer can have black stripes that melt with the rest of the color. You need to consider that these are the original colors of this breed; if you find any other, it means the dog is of a mixed breed. It is also typical of the Boxer breed a black mask in the face.

The eyes are brown or dark brown, big and rounded, and the ears tend to be cropped to give the animal a better hearing capability and to deepen their presence. The lower jaw extends beyond the upper one and this causes the dog to provoke a very strong bite. This was especially useful when it came to activities such as hunting and holding preys. The Boxer coat is made of short, shiny and smooth hair; plus, it is very tight to the body and this gives an image of fitness and strong muscles. The coat sheds around the year, but there is no intensive grooming needed.

These dogs suffer from very important diseases, some of them genetic, and in this way it is important to certificate with the breeder that the dog is healthy (do not take the dog home before he is 8 weeks old because this is the time it takes to run the needed tests). Some of the most important problems are cardiomyopathy, hypothyroidism, hip dysplasia and corneal dystrophy. The short coat doesn’t allow this breed to be kept under extreme weather.
