Inspite of its brave and fearless appearance, the Border Terrier is still one amazing family companion that can easily become an unforgettable pet. It is believed that the first Border Terrier specimens appeared in regions of England and Scotland where they were bred by farmers to keep their cattle protected from wolves and other wild animals. The Border Terrier has always had a corageous temperament although nowadays it is considered a fabulous family dog. It counts with acceptance by almost every important dog association.
Just like said before, the Border Terrier is a nice combination of a fearless and brave temperament with loyal and affectionate attitudes towards the people that is recognized as masters. They are obedient and easy to train. Plus, they love human company and get along really well with children. They are not aggressive dogs and if properly socialized, they can show a nice attitude towards other dogs and animals. They can live comfortably in apartments if provided with a good daily dose of exercise. Finally, they are also quite healthy and strong dogs.
As for its appearance, the Border Terrier is a medium sized dog that is easily distinctive for its harsh and coarse coat which also seems a bit tangled to the amateur eye. They feature a funny beard and available colors are really varied: red, tan, grizzle, blue and blue and tan. Normal measurements for these dogs are 13 to 16 pounds of weight and 13 to 16 inches tall. The body of the Border Terrier is compact, muscular and strong while the legs are thin but strong as well. The head is well proportioned to the rest of the body and ends in a squared shaped muzzle. The ears are small and folded over the head, while the nose is always black and the eyes are dark, round and quite large.
