Bloodhound Training

They are deeply magical and we can assure you that having one at home is one of the best decisions to make. However, these dogs require training just as much as any other dog and perhaps evens more. If you want to find out why, please join us here and discover it for yourself.

We would like to start giving you some details about this amazing breed and its temperament since we believe this to be really important to achieve a better understanding of the behavior of these dogs.

In this sense, we can begin by telling you that Bloodhounds are large dogs with a strong and powerful body. Yet, his loose skin, which happens to be one of the most distinctive features these dogs have, makes the Bloodhound look like a lazy or dull dog. This image is wrong because these dogs are truly hardworking and energetic animals. They are patient and noble dogs, loyal towards their owners and families and extremely playful and active.

Bloodhound dogs require a constant outdoor training process. Since they were originally bred to fulfill working activities such as hunting, rescuing, scent tracking, police work and many other jobs, they enjoy spending their time running and in contact with the nature. This is a very important fact since they won’t respond exactly as you want if you don’t provide them with a daily moment of active exercise and take into account that if you train your dog in a space where he feels comfortable and happy, his reactions towards your orders will be the best ones.

Just as any other dog, Bloodhound needs to be trained since the first weeks of age. Teaching him home rules such as when and where to eat, sleep, play or evacuate are central to make sure that your dog will learn about obedience and respect and that this will last for the rest of his life. Socializing them with other dogs, animals and even with children is also a great way for them to understand that they live alongside other creatures and that all are equal and should be respected and not attacked.

Bloodhound dogs are quite intelligent, but they can sometimes get distracted with any particular noise since they are always alert to start running. Therefore, you need to train him since his youth to only react to your orders and to always stay near you. A leash will always be necessary since they can easily get lost once they start running and the great of this is that this way you will be able to teach leash orders such as to stay still if you pull the leash and many other exercises.

Bloodhound dogs are extremely loving and patient dogs, they will truly enjoy your training and will easily learn to respect you and follow you. Violence and aggression is never an option so patience and commitment will surely be the ways through which the training will have great results.
