One of the most famous super heroes that comic books have given to us is one that has historically been related to an animal that lives in the night and that might sound scary for many of us. An animal that even though has some weaknesses, they are perfectly supplemented by its high sensitiveness. We are talking about Batman, the American superhero that will always compete with Superman the first place of popularity. Batman has been created by DC Comics, in the year of 1939, a decade in which many of the current superheroes were born and in which the comic books started to walk through a long way of huge success among audiences.

Batman happens to be the alter ego of the wealthy Bruce Wayne, a famous dandy who has suffered in person the lost of both of his parents after a robbery and that has since then decided to fight crime and injustice in the dark city of Gotham. For this, he spends his life training himself and developing those abilities and elements that will help you in the quest against murderers, thieves and violators of the law. His inspiration, and what makes him unique, comes from an animal to which he is suddenly confronted and in which he finds all those virtues he is wishing to have himself: the bat. This is the reason why he learns from bats and creates, with the help of his trustable and always committed butler Alfred, the costume, the vehicle and the cave that will become part of this fight against crime. Batman is therefore born, appearing only at nights, and becoming a real mystery to all the other inhabitants of the dark city. Batman’s skills are not supernatural: they are all a consequence of his hard work and train and of the development of proper implements such as the suit and coat that allows him to fly. He is also devoted to scientific and intellectual knowledge, apart from being an excellent detective and smart individual.

Batman has been occasionally accompanied by Robin, a young kid that is considered to be his disciple and to whom Batman cares and protects. Batwoman is the feminine version of this superhero but has never been too popular among Batman’s fans. His villains are numerous, although one of the most important ones is the Joker.

The popularity of Batman has been proved not only in graphic media, where this superhero has gained one of the most important places in comic books, but also in TV and in the movies, where the masked man has been portrayed over and over.
