The Basenjis' lived in Africa for thousands of years. They had good relationships with the tribes' there. The dogs generally survived by living in packs and stayed near the villages.
Because the Basenji bred for so many thousands of years without any form of human interference, the breed has stayed relatively the same throughout History. They lived in the wild for so long that some of this can be seen in the Basenjis of today. Rather than bark, they tend to make a howling type of noise. They are very intelligent and loyal; this is carried over from the loyalty they once showed to their pack.
Their original origin is still unknown; they can last be traced down to the African wild, and no further. Some people believe that they originally came from Egypt, but no one knows for sure exactly where they came from.
