Each breed is special and in this sense, no one can deny the fact that the Basenji is among the most beautiful and impressive dogs of all times. The Basenji shows a Growth structure that transforms the puppy into a massive, strong and muscular dog when fully grown. In terms of weight, the Basenji normally weights between 170 and 230 grams as a puppy while final numbers (according to the AKC and other official dog associations) for weight are between 10 to 12 kgs for males and 9 to 11 kgs for female dogs. This Growth takes place quite quickly and dogs of above six months are near the final weight.
As for adult measurements, the Basenji usually reaches up to 16 to 17 inches of height (or 41 to 43 cm) in the case of males and 15 to 16 inches of height (38 to 41 cm) in the case of bitches. All of these numbers make of the Basenji a truly important dog that features a muscular, strong and compact body. The head is triangular while the neck is really strong and the legs are medium sized and heavy.
Other important changes that take place as the Basenji grows have to do with the animal's color. As for its coat, it becomes red if it is brown when a puppy. Other colors may stay the same without much change. The nose and the back part of the paws become darker as the animal grow up.
