As its name says it, the American Staffordshire Terrier began its journey in the area of Staffordshire in England. Its birth has been placed in the nineteenth century after experimental breedings with Bulldog and Terrier specimens. However, its story would not end there. It was later exported to America where it obtained a large part of its current appearance by selective breeding and progressive weight increase. This dog is recognized by the AKC, the CKC and the FCI among many other associations. Its lifespan is between nine and fifteen years.

The American Staffordshire Terrier features a very big and sturdy body with well defined muscles. It is a very active and strong dog. It has a broad head with really strong jaws as imagined. While the eyes are round and dark, the ears are usually cropped like it happens with many other dog breeds. The coat of the American Sttafordshire Terrier is short, shinny and thick and the colors are varied although a majority of it must be of pure white color with no markings. As for the temperament of this dog, we are talking about a playful and active dog with a loyal and respectful attitude towards the people it recognizes as masters. They are good with other pets and children since they can easily become great family pets. Early socialization is still always recommended.
