When it comes to choosing unique and beautiful dog breeds, there is no doubt that the American Eskimo deserves a place in the ranking. This gorgeous and compact is of Nordic descent and has acquired its name after being brought to America in the beginnings of the twentieth century. It is related to the German Spitz dog and have always been used for many different tasks such as guarding, competitions, narcotics detection and others. It is accepted by the AKC, the UKC, the NKC, the CKC, the APRI and the ACR. The American Eskimo Dog Club of America was found recently in the year of 1985.

The American Eskimo is easily recognizable for its completely white coat. This coat is quite dense and fluffy and it covers the entire body of the animal. The body of the American Eskimo is compact and short in height and the legs are strong but short. The tail is covered with abundant hair and the head is pointy. The ears are V-shaped and carried erected while the nose is completely black and the eyes feature a unique expression. There are three varieties: toy, miniature and standard. This last one is the most popular and its average measurements are over 15 inches tall and 18 to 35 pounds of weight.

This a lovely dog that immediately establishes a strong bond with its family. They are also playful and active dogs that enjoy human company. They are great family dogs since they display a protective and sweet temperament towards children. Plus, they are also really hard workers and helpers. If left alone for too much time, they can become aggressive and destructive. Finally, these dogs require quite a lot of exercise and even though they can be kept inside apartments they definitely need a daily walk to stay calm and healthy.
