American Bulldogs create a strong bond with their owner and there are very rarely any problems with young children due to their loving nature. It must be noted that to ensure the best possible relationship with children, obedience must be taught from a young age as well as being socialised regularly. The greater amount of training that the American Bulldog receives, the higher the chance the dog will be a fantastic family dog.
American Bulldogs are very energetic dogs and prefer a larger surrounding, such as a back garden, where they can run around freely in without feeling confined. This is paramount to the dog's wellbeing as small, confined spaces, as well as being left alone for long periods of time, can cause distress and encourage development of destructive tendencies.
Whilst these dogs are primarily family pets, their power is often underestimated and some owners believe that an American Bulldog will not make an ideal pet for someone with no experience of large dominant breeds.
