The American Bulldog is a clear evolution of the famous English Bulldog breed. It is believed that they were originally used for fighting games but also to become fabulous hunters. Of course, the American Bulldog was created when some pilgrims arrived in America and the original breed suffered certain changes. Among the associations that currently recognize this breed we find the UKC, the NKC, the CKC, the ACR, the APRI and others but not the AKC or the KCGB.

One of the elements that differentiates the American from the English Bulldog is that the first one counts with longer legs that let them be more agile and therefore displays quicker movements. As for the head, it is quite similar: broad, with a strong muzzle, a dark nose and pendant ears that fall softly over the head. The eyes are small. The coat is quite similar as well, being short and harsh, it can be found in many different colors such as white, brindle, brown, red and tan.

As for its temperament and behavior, the American Bulldog counts with a strong and corageous personality. Although it is great as a family dog, it can sometimes show its aggressive side so early socialization is always recommended. They are also protective dogs that stay truly loyal to their masters. Finally, they require daily exercise in order to be healthy and happy.
