As one of the most famous dogs of all, the Alaskan Malamute is an impressive and beautiful dog that can catch everyone's attention everywhere it goes. The history of this dog is clearly linked to the colder regions of the planet where it was once bred as a companion of the esmiko tribes. Of course, it was later exported to America and other parts of Europe when travellers took it to such regions after discovering its amazing characteristics. It is recognized by the AKC, the UKC, the FCI, the CKC, the APRI, the ACR and others.
The appearance of the Alaskan Malamute is quite distinctive although there are quite some elements that make it similar to the Siberian Husky. It is a large sized dog that features measurements of around 24 to 26 inches tall and 80 to 95 pounds of weight. The body is quite muscular but yet elegant. The head is pointy and narrow while the ears are V-shaped and carried erected. The legs are strong and long and the eyes are almond shaped and dark. The coat of the Alaskan Malamute is extremely coarse and thick in order to keep the animal warm and protected from the extreme weathers. It is soft and usually available in gray and white tones.
As for its temperament, the Alaskan Malamute is a deeply loving and affectionate dog. It loves human company and is fabulous with children. Still, they can become destructive if not provided with exercise or controlled by a firm leadership. They are also quite obedient and devoted to the family. They also need to be supervised with small animals because of their somewhat wild temperaments. However, if properly bred and trained, they can become fabulous with them. Finally, the Alaskan Malamute are intelligent dogs that will make of the training process a truly enjoyable experience.
