Akita Inu Books

There are many dog breeds that are not truly familiar to us and this should really change since they are all magical and special. One of those breeds that are not particularly familiar is the Akita Inu breed, although this is an exceptionally interesting and wonderful type of dog. Coming from the distant land of Japan, this breed has been growing lately among us but it still doesn’t receive the attention it should.

There is no doubt that Akita Inus are among the most fantastic dogs and discovering them is always a good way to feel closer to them. In this sense, one of the most recommendable and best reviewed books is the Book of the Akita, by Joan Brearley and edited by TFH Publications in 1990, even though there is a new and reprinted edition available. Through its almost three hundred pages, this book is a complete guide to this dog’s history in Japan and in America, as well as in the rest of the world. It also provides you with great information on its needs, its health, its training and much more.

Another trustable option is the book that belongs to the Kennel Club Dog Breed Series, the Akita, by authors B. J. Andrews and M. Purnell Carpenter and which consists of one hundred and sixty pages. This book is one of the latest ones since it has been published in 2004 and its information is quite new and fresh. Everyday care, history, puppies, breed standards and special features are some of its contents.

The Akita Today (Book of the Breed) is also a great option to choose from and has received some of the best reviews from both experts and general public. Written by Dave and Jenny Killilea and published in the year of 2002 by Ringpress Books, this book will take you through the most important information on such magical dogs as Akita Inus: its origins, the breed, puppies, the attention and care they need and the facts you need to know if you want your Akita to perform in dog competitions. The Akita Today is definitely a must if you want to begin from the bottom and go up to the top.

Finally, A New Owner’s Guide to Akitas, by Barbara J. Andrews is also a trustable option since it is truly accessible and will provide you with important information about things such as owning an Akita, the origins of the breed, selecting your Akita, purebred dogs and many other useful facts. It has been published in 1996 by TFH Publications and it is one of the most accessible ones in terms of prices.

Akita Inus are truly magical and wonderful dogs, but they need to be taken care just as any other dog breed so if you are planning to take one home, you should really get one of these great Akita Inu books and start giving your Akita the best lifestyle possible.
